Today in History February 18th

In 1797, 18 British warships, commanded by Sir Ralph Abercromby, invaded and took over Trinidad. After a few days, the last Spanish governor, Don José María Chacón, surrendered the island to Abercromby. This was known as the Invasion of Trinidad and took place during the French Revolutionary Wars.
