Today in History February 22nd

February 22nd is the 53rd day in the Gregorian Calendar. In 1881, in Central Park, New York, Cleopatra's Needle was erected. Cleopatra's Needle is a 3,500-year-old Ancient Egyptian Obelisk, made out of red granite, stands around 69 feet high, and weighs about 200 tons. Originally part of a pair, which originally stood together in the ruins of the Ceasareum of Alexandria, now the second stands in London. The NYC needle was a gift from Khedive, for the United States remaining a friendly neutral, as France and Britain tried to obtain political control of the Egyptian Government.
