Today in History February 26th

February 26th is the 57th day in the Gregorian Calendar. In 1935, Adolf Hitler ordered the Luftwaffe to be reformed, violating the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. The Luftwaffe was Nazi-Germany's air force before and during World War I. On June 28, 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed, effectively ending the conflict between Nazi-Germany and a majority of the Allied countries, also banning Germany from having an air force. For years, pilots trained in secret, until February 26, 1935, when the Luftwaffe's existence was publicly acknowledged.
