Today in History February 6th

In 1685, James II of England and VII of Scotland is proclaimed King upon the death of his brother Charles II. Charles II died suddenly due to an apoplectic fit. Upon his deathbed, he requested his brother James II and VII take his throne. James' reign ended only after 3 years, when he was overthrown and replaced by William III and Mary II.
