March 1st is the 60th day in the Gregorian Calendar. In 1872, the United States of America established Yellowstone National Park as its first national park. Located in the western United States and comprised of 2,219,791 acres, Yellowstone is contained within the states Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Initially, park management and control fell under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of the Interior, Columbus Delano. Starting in 1886, the U.S. Army was commisioned to oversee the park. In 1917, administration of the park was transferred to the National Park Service, which was created in 1916.
