Today in History March 5th

March 5th is the 65th day in the Gregoria Calendar. In 1906, during the Moro Rebellion, US troops overwhelmed native Moros in the First Battle of Bud Dajo, leaving only six survivors. The Moro Rebellion was an armed conflict between Moro people and the United States Army during the Philippene-American War. Moor, the Spanish word for Moor, is a term for Muslim people that lived in the Southern Philippenes. It is disputed whether or not the inhabitants of Bud Dajo were hostile. It was recounted that the inhabitants declared they had no intention of fighting. The Bud Dajo inhabitants suffered around 800-900 losses, the US army only suffered 21, with 70 wounded. This is why the First Battle of Bud Dajo is also known as the Moro Crater Massacre.
